Royal Enfield Meteor 350 Front Brake Pad Replacement Guide

Royal Enfield Meteor 350 Front Brake Pad Replacement Guide guide

Brake pads are the one wear item you never want to neglect. Replace the Royal Enfield Meteor 350’s front pads before they wear to the metal — and have fresh the DOT spec in your manual brake fluid on hand.

Check pad thickness at every service. If the pads are thin, glazed or contaminated with oil, replace them — and check the disc for scoring at the same time.

How to replace the front brake pads, step by step

  1. Support the bike and remove the caliper — unbolt the caliper and slide it off the disc; don’t let it hang by the hose.
  2. Remove the old pads — note how they sit, and take out the retaining pins or clips.
  3. Push the pistons back — use a piston tool or a flat blade, and watch the fluid level in the master cylinder as you do.
  4. Clean the caliper — remove brake dust and corrosion from the caliper and pad slides.
  5. Fit the new pads — install them the same way round as the old ones, and refit pins and clips.
  6. Refit the caliper and torque the bolts — torque caliper bolts to spec.
  7. Pump the lever until it firms up — then check for leaks and test the brakes at low speed before riding.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Letting the caliper hang by the hose — this damages the hose and fittings — always support the caliper.
  • Forgetting to pump the lever — the first pull after fitting goes to the bar — pump the lever before riding.
  • Getting grease on the pads — contaminated pads don’t stop the bike — keep them clean and dry.
  • Ignoring a scored disc — a grooved disc eats new pads fast — check the disc and replace if needed.

FAQ

How do I know the front pads need replacing?

Check the wear grooves or the minimum thickness mark — if the friction material is near the backing plate, replace them.

What brake fluid does the Meteor 350 use?

Yes — but flush with fresh the DOT spec in your manual every 2 years. Or when the fluid looks dark.

Do I need to bleed the brakes after changing pads?

Not normally — but if the lever feels spongy, bleed the brakes and check for air in the line.
